Question guys!
Pulled the carb and head of my XT after I swamped it. Carb was squeaky clean, reeds had 0 mud on them.. found mud on the head.. cleaned it up put it back together and it won't idle.. runs like crap… could it be possible that there is mud behind the piston? Came in from the pipe after the bike shut off in the mud?Easiest way to check?
Only think on the top of the piston was a think later of burn… cylinder looked perfect.

If the bike stalls while the exhaust manifold is under water, then it can suck water/mud back in unless the manifold/engine block joint is perfectly sealed – which it isn't!
I would suspect that this is how the crap got in there, but that doesn't mean it stayed on top of the piston.
The choice of how far to go to clean it up is, obviously, yours. But, the last person I know of that this happened to trashed the bottom end as well.
Whatever you decide to do, I would make sure you use some high-temp flexible sealant on the exhaust port when you reassemble in order to minimise the chances of a repeat.

Even though the carb looks clean did you blow through the jets? Was there any water in the float bowl drain plug? Does sound like blockage in pilot jet circuit.

My husband has always had a Harley and he went to red wing or academy and just bought still toes. He bought one pain of riding boots that came up to his knees from Harley Davidson but for the most part still toe work boots. What you are wearing is very dangerous, slippery when wet
