Should I just do a jack shaft?

Question

Think this is off of a late model Yamaha Vstar 650. Not sure though. My question is, has anyone out there converted a shaft rear wheel to a sprocket? And does anybody think its possible to find an offset front sprocket for a XS400 to clear this, or should I just do a jack shaft? The tire is 6.5" wide.

remove the shaft drive and expose the hub, then take more photos

and the other side of the wheel? Also if you remove the 6 bolts in the picture does that free the entire center hub assembly?

Josh just looking but a stock wire wheel for an 81 XS400 is only 45 bucks. Unless you have the tools to fabricate a custom hub for the bearings and a spacer to allow you to attach the sproket, its probably cheaper and easier to just get a wire rear wheel from an 81

This is what I’ve got. I think I might have a local machine shop make an adapter for the sprocket that bolts on here, and a separate set of axle spacers. I will probably use a 520 flat sprocket for the rear, and look into a jack shaft to get around the tire. I haven’t been able to remove the rotor, but its not really in my way.

My 400 is a 78 400 Special. So it has 18" mags front and rear with discs. The original idea was to use the stock wheels with a hard tail. But since I came across this "free" "gem" (nothing is really free, is it?), i have decided to do it different. My rims won’t match, but I think some production bikes come stock in a similar configuration.

It looks like you can pull that beauty ring if so your spacer idea will work… But again consider costs

Yep, like i said "nothing is really free." Also, that ring won’t come off, that’s what the spokes are attatched to. You can see it in the pic. Might have to come up with a dress up shield.
