When the funds come to me I will be getting mine from Steve. http://www.green-trust.org/wordpress/2014/02/03/van-dwellers-rv-solar-starter-kits/

I found someone I trusted to install my solar system. Purchased everything off Amazon cheaper than any place else could quote me, then paid him to install.

    A solar generator

Question, the same as Doug Hanson?

Never heard of a solar generator. You can use solar to power a generator. Are you confusing whether you want to get a generator or solar to power you when off grid? And it would take a lot of solar panels and batteries to power a generator.

I may be wrong, as I've just started hearing about them, but basically a solar generator seems to be a complete pre-packaged system of solar cells, regulator and storage battery combined, rather than buying all the parts separate and creating your own solar power system.

Example of what they call a solar Generator. http://www.goalzero.com/heavy-duty

Thanks Neill, very interesting. It wouldn't work for me as it stands as it takes too long to charge it. I'll be interested in seeing how they progress.

I guess what I am trying to say is, Research online and find what would work best for you and your needs. I researched for 3 years before I purchased my first Solar panel and MPPT controller for my sailboat.

I think I did 2 years of research deciding what I would do, also. It worked so well that part of my deal trading in my rig recently was removing the system from the old and installing it in the new.

A solar generator is simply a solar panel, batteries and a charge controller. All in some sort of case with an invertor. Easy to find, but the real question is what are your power needs??? A simple system works great for RV lights and such, but won't run large appliances very or in some cases at all. DIY video's all over YouTube, but you need to get a handle on what your power requirements are.

I just started looking for an electrician to go over my solar panel system diagram, to see if it's accurate and what else I need. If I can't find anybody, I'm going to have to spend more money, than I probably should have to. I know I'm on the right track. Just got to finish it up and triple check it.

Shelly Gourdeau – A solar generator like that only makes sense if you're using some sort of trailer that has no battery or 12V system of its own. You would end up doubling up on batteries, you have another fairly large device to move around and store in a small trailer, and you have to pull it out and set it in the sun to charge. Once it's outside, you need to keep an eye on it to be sure it doesn't grow legs or get rained on. You are far better off purchasing an inexpensive panel kit ( http://www.amazon.com/Renogy-Solar-Panel-Bundle-200Watt/dp/B00B8L8MD2/ref=sr_1_2 ) and an inverter ( http://www.amazon.com/Wagan-EL2601-Elite-400W-Inverter/dp/B007Y4BL1C/ref=sr_1_5 ). Add in a high quality deep cycle battery for your trailer and you'll end up with a system that charges faster, has more capacity and costs less, while needing no daily management from you.

My biggest problem with buying "Systems" which is what a Solar Generator seems to be, is if one part goes bad you have to replace the entire "System" or pay higher than normal prices for replacement parts which are proprietary to that "System

Also, it weighs 103 lb., which would be difficult for many people to lift into an RV, even with help.
