Indian 87 Octane

Question

Hey everybody. Had a question on fuel. If I only can only get 87 octane and only add half a tank until I can get 93 or higher, then add another half tank, what type of octane do I end up with? Also, is this a good idea to do regularly? I don’t want to anything that void my warranty. Thanks!!

You’re going to get a lot of varied answers. But using 87 on occasion is fine. As long as you’re not getting detonation no harm. And the computer will help compensate if it senses any knocking. Just go back to the good stuff when you can.

    Thanks!

Sure thing. A lot of places in rural missouri only have 87 so you have no choice. I’ve never had a single ping or knock.

Cleghorn Joe, how could you hear over all of the clacking?

    No clacker here.

Cleghorn Joe , that’s because you can’t hear it over the knocking and pinging. Lol

Depends on if it’s ethanol or non-ethanol

      Which is better?

I only use non-ethanol because I prefer to add my own ethanol. I have a very specific brand I like.

Depends if you are running winter air or summer air in your tires hough

I’m pretty sure you’re just being a smart ass. I’ve heard this about car tires but no motorcycles.

I use helium in mine and I swear my gas mileage increased by 20%…

Joe Erivez best gas I ran is 100 % gas in Louisiana. Bike didn’t knock , better acceleration.

Do I have to change the helium out between seasons or is it ok to use year round?

      0

Joe Erivez since it is inert there is no need to change it out with seasonal shifts…

David W. True that Helium filled tires do allow you to get at least 20% better fuel efficiency (depending on attitudinal factors of course) but your bike will begin sounding like Donald duck… It changes the engine clack to an engine quack!
