2010 KTM 450 EXC

Question

Any one have any idea how moisture could have been introduced into my gear box? Screen was clean, engine oil was fine. It’s been sitting for a month after being riden hard for three days on some Colorado single track. 2010 450 EXC.

You have a bad gasket somewhere.

Do you do water crossings? Make sure your crank breather is routed up and out of the water.

Do you take the air filter off put paper towels in the carburetor Inlet and use a air box plug?

    Coolant?

Check coolant level. Water pump seal

Is the coolant level low? If it is that would indicate coolant is getting in. Make sure you change the oil filter once you fix the problem

Another thought, didn’t that era of KTM 4 strokes have issues with seals or gaskets? I remember talk on one issue being the two seperate oil sumps (Gear and engine) leaking or weeping into one another? Just to throw a curve ball but sounds like coolant given the milky colour.

    Pressure washer to suspect area?

Coolant level was checked……full. A failed water pump seal would contaminate the engine oil, right? The engine oil was fine, as was the filter. The only thing that makes sense would be a pressure wash. Gonna ride this week and check it again. Hope it’s just a fluke…….

Just did the same on ny 08 530…inner and outer waterpump seals and new impeller…engine oil clean gear oil just like yours …i done no crossings or even washed my bike …no sign of coolant weeping through weep hole ..just happened…make sure when you do your coolant you bleed the system
